WEBSITE TERMS OF USE
Effective Date: July 30, 2026
1. Acceptance and Scope
These Website Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern access to and use of the St. Jerome Institute website, including its pages, text, photographs, videos, forms, downloadable materials, and other content made available through it (collectively, the “Site”).
By accessing or using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree to them, you should not use the Site.
Some pages, forms, applications, donations, registrations, employment opportunities, or other activities may be governed by additional terms, notices, policies, agreements, or third-party platform requirements. Those more specific terms control the activity to which they apply.
These Terms govern use of the Site only. They do not replace or modify any separate written agreement.
2. The SJI Entities
The Site provides information about, and supports certain activities of:
- Saint Jerome Institute, Inc., a Maryland nonstock corporation (“SJI”); and
- Saint Jerome Institute of Northern Virginia, Inc., a Virginia nonstock corporation (“SJI NoVA”).
SJI and SJI NoVA are separate legal entities. SJI is the sole member of SJI NoVA. These Terms refer to them collectively as the “SJI Entities” and individually as an “SJI Entity.”
Except for employment postings and application processes, the applicable page, form, giving opportunity, admissions or enrollment process, or other transaction identifies the SJI Entity responsible for the relevant activity. Employment postings and application processes identify the school and location associated with the position; the employing corporation is identified in the applicable offer and employment documents. Where the responsible SJI Entity is not otherwise identified, it is ordinarily the entity operating the campus, program, or activity to which the information principally relates. This fallback does not identify the employing corporation for an employment opportunity.
Some administrative functions, personnel, systems, and service providers support both SJI Entities. In these Terms, “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the responsible SJI Entity and, where a function is shared, to both SJI Entities as applicable.
The use of shared branding, personnel, systems, or website infrastructure does not merge the SJI Entities or make both entities parties to every application, enrollment relationship, employment relationship, donation, contract, or transaction.
St. Jerome Institute is an independent high school.
The SJI Entity responsible for the Northern Virginia school is separate and distinct from St. Philip Catholic Church, Inc. and the Diocese of Arlington. Use of facilities at St. Philip does not by itself make that entity an agent, affiliate, ministry, partner, or employee of St. Philip or the Diocese, or confer diocesan recognition, sponsorship, or designation as a Catholic school.
3. Informational Nature of the Site
The Site provides general information about the SJI Entities, their schools, mission, curriculum, programs, admissions, tuition, financial assistance, personnel, facilities, employment opportunities, events, fundraising, and other activities.
Site content is not, by itself:
- an offer of admission or enrollment;
- an enrollment or tuition agreement;
- a guarantee of financial assistance;
- an offer or guarantee of employment;
- a promise that a course, program, event, facility, faculty member, employment opening, or other opportunity will remain available;
- a representation that an application or submission will be accepted;
- tax, legal, medical, financial, or other professional advice; or
- a modification of any separate written agreement or policy.
Programs, schedules, tuition, fees, personnel, facilities, employment openings, admissions requirements, events, and other information may change. Any applicable written agreement, official notice, handbook, application, offer letter, gift documentation, or other specific communication controls over inconsistent general website content.
We seek to keep the Site accurate and current but do not guarantee that all information is complete, current, or free from error.
4. Permitted Use
Subject to these Terms, the SJI Entities grant you a limited, revocable, nonexclusive, nontransferable right to access and use the Site for lawful personal, informational, educational, admissions-related, employment-related, charitable, or other purposes for which the Site is made available.
You may:
- view publicly available Site content;
- print or download a reasonable number of pages for personal, noncommercial reference;
- submit forms and applications for their stated purposes;
- share links to public Site pages; and
- quote limited portions of Site content as permitted by applicable law.
Attribution is requested where appropriate and practicable.
Any permitted copy must retain applicable copyright, trademark, attribution, and proprietary notices.
No other right or license is granted by implication, estoppel, or otherwise.
5. Prohibited Conduct
You may not use the Site to:
- violate applicable law or the rights of another person;
- submit false, misleading, fraudulent, defamatory, threatening, harassing, obscene, or unlawful material;
- impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity, authority, or affiliation;
- interfere with the Site, its servers, networks, security, forms, accounts, or other users;
- introduce malicious code, viruses, disabling devices, or harmful technology;
- attempt to obtain unauthorized access to an account, system, record, or nonpublic area;
- collect personal information about another person without lawful authority;
- use Site content or SJI names, logos, marks, photographs, curriculum materials, or other materials in a manner that implies sponsorship, endorsement, affiliation, or authorization that has not been given;
- remove or alter copyright, trademark, attribution, confidentiality, or proprietary notices;
- reproduce, modify, publish, distribute, sell, sublicense, or commercially exploit Site content except as expressly permitted by these Terms or applicable law;
- systematically scrape, harvest, crawl, download, index, or extract Site content or data, except for ordinary public search-engine indexing conducted consistently with the Site’s technical controls;
- use Site content to create or populate a commercial database or competing educational product; or
- use substantial Site content to train, develop, or improve a machine-learning or generative-artificial-intelligence system without prior written permission.
6. Intellectual Property
The Site and its content are owned by or licensed to one or more of the SJI Entities or other rights holders and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other applicable laws.
Protected content may include:
- text and articles;
- curriculum descriptions and educational materials;
- syllabi, reading lists, seminar plans, and teacher resources;
- photographs, video, audio, graphics, and designs;
- logos, names, marks, slogans, and branding;
- downloadable documents;
- software, page design, and other website elements; and
- compilations and arrangements of Site content.
“Saint Jerome Institute,” “St. Jerome Institute,” “SJI,” “Saint Jerome Institute of Northern Virginia,” “St. Jerome Institute of Northern Virginia,” “SJI NoVA,” and associated names, logos, and designs may be trademarks, service marks, trade names, or other protected identifiers.
You may not use any SJI name, mark, logo, seal, design, or other identifier in a manner likely to cause confusion, suggest endorsement, or imply a relationship that has not been authorized.
Requests for permission to reproduce or use Site content may be submitted using the contact information in Section 21. Permission may be withheld or conditioned in the discretion of the applicable rights holder.
Nothing in these Terms limits rights available under fair use or another nonwaivable provision of applicable law.
7. Information and Materials You Submit
You retain any ownership rights you have in information or materials you submit through the Site.
By submitting information or materials, you authorize the responsible SJI Entity and its authorized personnel and service providers to receive, store, reproduce, transmit, review, and otherwise use them as reasonably necessary to:
- respond to your request;
- administer the form, application, donation, registration, or other activity for which they were submitted;
- maintain appropriate institutional records;
- comply with applicable law and institutional obligations; and
- use the information as otherwise described in the Privacy Policy or a more specific notice presented with the form.
This authorization does not, by itself, permit public use of your name, image, voice, quotation, testimonial, or likeness. Public use of identifiable material is governed by an applicable media permission, release, or opt-out, release, interview authorization, event notice, or other permission.
When submitting information or materials, you represent that:
- the information is accurate to the best of your knowledge;
- you have authority to submit it;
- its submission does not unlawfully infringe another person’s rights; and
- it does not contain malicious code or material prohibited by these Terms.
Please avoid submitting unnecessary personal or sensitive information about another person. The SJI Entities may decline, remove, or disregard a submission that is unlawful, inappropriate, unrelated to the stated purpose, or inconsistent with institutional requirements.
8. Privacy
The St. Jerome Institute Privacy Policy describes how the SJI Entities collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect personal information.
Information submitted through the Site is handled as described in the Privacy Policy and any more specific notice presented with the applicable form.
The Privacy Policy is a notice of information practices and does not replace any consent, authorization, release, or agreement separately required for a particular activity.
9. Admissions and Enrollment
Submitting an inquiry or application does not guarantee admission, enrollment, financial assistance, placement, or participation in any program.
Admissions and enrollment decisions are governed by the applicable admissions materials, enrollment documentation, school policies, and other official communications.
Applicants and families are responsible for providing accurate and complete information through the designated process. Submission of a website inquiry does not satisfy requirements that must be completed through FACTS or another designated admissions or enrollment platform.
Nothing on the Site modifies an executed enrollment agreement or creates a right to continued enrollment.
10. Employment Opportunities
A job posting is an invitation to apply and is not an offer or guarantee of employment.
The posting and, where applicable, the application process identify the school and location associated with the position.
The employing corporation will be identified in the applicable offer and employment documents.
Employment is governed by the applicable offer letter, employment agreement, handbook, policies, and law—not by general Site content.
The SJI Entities may revise, suspend, fill, or withdraw a posting at any time, subject to applicable law and any separate written commitment.
Applicant information is handled as described in the Privacy Policy and any notice provided through the applicable recruiting or applicant-tracking platform.
11. Donations
The applicable giving page, donation platform, acknowledgment, or gift documentation identifies the entity receiving a gift.
Unless the applicable giving page or gift documentation expressly identifies another recipient, gifts made through the shared online giving process are received by Saint Jerome Institute, Inc.
A donor may indicate that a gift is intended to support the Northern Virginia school, another campus, a particular program, or another purpose. Such communications are administered according to the terms of the gift, applicable law, and the charitable purposes of the receiving entity.
Website content is not tax or financial advice. Statements concerning deductibility are subject to applicable law and the donor’s individual circumstances. Donors should consult their own advisers where appropriate.
A donation is also subject to any terms presented through the applicable donation platform or payment processor.
12. Prayer Requests and Emergencies
The prayer-request form is provided for the submission of intentions for prayer. Information submitted through it is used for SJI’s prayer-related purposes, including the school’s book of intentions and intentions at Mass offered on Wednesdays.
It is not monitored continuously and must not be used to seek urgent medical, safety, mental-health, crisis, or emergency assistance. In an emergency, contact 911 or another appropriate emergency or crisis service.
Please include only information you wish SJI to use for those purposes and avoid unnecessary sensitive information about another person.
The form does not provide confidential sacramental or pastoral counseling and does not guarantee anonymity. Its handling is described in the Privacy Policy and in any notice accompanying the form.
13. Photographs, Recordings, and Publicity
These Terms do not constitute consent to photograph, record, identify, quote, or publicize any person.
Public use of student names, images, recordings, quotations, or testimonials is governed by the applicable enrollment media permission, release, or opt-out and related procedures. Separate permissions or notices may apply to employees, speakers, volunteers, visitors, and event attendees.
Mere presence at an SJI facility or event does not, by itself, constitute consent to promotional use of an identifiable image.
14. Third-Party Websites and Services
The Site contains links to or embedded content from third-party websites and services, which may include admissions, enrollment, donation, payment-processing, employment, newsletter, registration, video, mapping, social-media, and other platforms.
Those services are operated independently and are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. A link or embedded service does not necessarily constitute endorsement of all content, products, services, statements, or practices of the third party.
The SJI Entities do not control and are not responsible for a third party’s availability, security, accuracy, content, or independent handling of information.
Use caution before submitting sensitive information through any external service.
15. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available.”
The SJI Entities disclaim warranties that the Site will be:
- uninterrupted or continuously available;
- free from errors, malicious code, or security vulnerabilities;
- compatible with every device or browser;
- complete, current, or suitable for every purpose; or
- free from material supplied by third parties that may infringe another person’s rights.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the SJI Entities disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and noninfringement.
These disclaimers do not alter an express obligation contained in a separate written agreement or exclude a warranty that applicable law does not permit to be excluded.
16. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, neither SJI Entity nor its directors, officers, employees, agents, or service providers will be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising solely from access to or use of, or inability to access or use, the Site.
Nothing in this Section alters any obligation arising under a separate written agreement or governing the administration of a charitable gift.
17. Responsibility for Unlawful Misuse
To the extent permitted by law, you are responsible for third-party claims, losses, or reasonable costs arising from:
- your unlawful or unauthorized use of the Site;
- your material violation of these Terms; or
- information or materials you submit without the authority or rights necessary to submit them.
This Section does not require a parent, student, applicant, donor, or other ordinary user to indemnify an SJI Entity for the SJI Entity’s own negligence, misconduct, or breach of duty.
18. Suspension, Modification, and Termination
The SJI Entities may modify, suspend, restrict, or discontinue all or part of the Site for maintenance, security, legal, operational, or other legitimate reasons.
We may terminate or restrict a user’s access where reasonably necessary to address misuse, security risk, legal exposure, or violation of these Terms.
Provisions that by their nature should survive termination—including intellectual-property protections, disclaimers, liability limitations, and provisions concerning submitted materials—remain effective after access ends.
19. Changes to These Terms
We may revise these Terms to reflect changes in the Site, organizational structure, practices, or legal obligations.
Revised Terms will state their effective date. Where reasonably appropriate or required by law, we may provide additional notice of a material change.
The version in effect when a particular form or transaction is completed governs use of the Site in connection with that interaction, subject to any more specific applicable terms.
20. Miscellaneous
If a provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, it will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted, and the remaining provisions will remain effective.
A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of the right to enforce it later.
You may not assign rights under these Terms without the written consent of the responsible SJI Entity.
These Terms do not create rights in any person other than the user and the responsible SJI Entity, except that each person identified in Section 16 is an intended third-party beneficiary of Section 16 solely to the extent of the protections provided there.
Nothing in these Terms limits a right or remedy that cannot lawfully be waived.
These Terms, together with any more specific terms applicable to a particular website interaction, constitute the agreement concerning use of the Site, subject to any applicable separate written agreement.
Section headings are for convenience and do not alter interpretation.
